CATHOLIC RULE: “Worship and Alms”, in ECUMENISM

Summary Clarification for the Catholic Laity group “ecumenical” association with others that call themselves Christians, but are neither in Union “full communion” with the four marks of Church that are Christ. [ One, holy catholic & apostolic Church, we profess! ] City intends to have this reviewed by Dogmatic Theologian Priest.

Using 2 source documents of our Age –

  1. DECREE ON ECUMENISM – UNITATIS REDINTEGRATIO, Second Vatican Council
  2. The Holy Office on Worship with Non-Catholics from 1622 to 1939

Within the Catholic Church, we as a people {Sensus Fidelium} hold steadfast to the Doctrines of the Apostles, as did the first baptized into the faith (Acts2:41-42). Over our Catholic history, heresies, apostasy, and anti-Christs have arisen. When these manifest within or without, the Church has been forced to clarify our Paradosis in faith, the doctrine of the Church. Our Magisterium body, we trust maintains the deposit of faith and holds to the language that prevents, no incongruities ( creating err in Truth) ever seeps into the Body of Christ. Should the Church fail to do so, destroys our claim to its, “ Holy Divine Heritage” and counts us (Catholics), as just one of the 49,000 christian churches in the world. Often the confusion is NOT from the source ( the upper hierarchical authority), but an misinterpretation from below, mainly in the laity. Confusion can cause error, as I trusted but did not verify. So I, fell into this grievous error due a combination of MY Charismatic-ism involvement & misunderstood Vatican II Ecumenism .

So today, the intention is clarification or a reconciling Ecumenism Statements of Vatican II, as City understands it today, for my Brothers & Sister in Christ. Using the two mentioned documents, in the HOPE of preventing possible “grave spiritual error against God”; City shares this in a true spiritual work of Mercy. “Instruct the ignorant, counsel the doubtful, admonish sinners, bear wrongs patiently, and forgive offenses willingly. are mixing-up our Dogma and it’s practice (“Praxis”). This Essay does NOT intend to explain WHY?, or WHO?, just what we should hold to steadfastly.

A] Vatican II document un-ambiguously requires that ecumenism by the Orders or the Laity must first understand the faith community, We Catholics are engaging. So here is Nevada’s 2014 faith community. [.http://www.pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/state/nevada/]

Christian 66% they are categorized as follows: Catholics 25%; Evangelical 20%; Mainline Protestant 10% Historical Black Protestants 5%, LDS-Mormon 4% Orthodox 1% & Jehovah Witness 1%. = 66% Nevada christians surveyed 2014!

My son ( age 30) emailed me after I sent him Pew’s slides” this is very shocking”this much belief in God?, ( given these answers)

This poll sampled the following topics: Same sex marriage 54% strongly in favor; homosexual sex should be accepted 69%; Abortion (“child sacrifice”) 62% view it most always legal; and evolution only 23% view God as having a hand in it? In Nevada the case for Theological safe, protected Ecumenism is very dismal! If these people (christian 66%) above are in union with my faith, Catholicism is an alien, dogma.

B.] DECREE ON ECUMENISM – UNITATIS REDINTEGRATIO (key points)

Intro:1. The restoration of unity among all Christians is one of the principal concerns of the Second Vatican Council. Christ the Lord founded one Church and one Church only. (1) Such division openly contradicts the will of Christ, scandalizes the world, and damages the holy cause of preaching the Gospel to every creature…… it wishes to set before all Catholics the ways and means by which they too can respond to this grace and to this divine call.

I . CATHOLIC PRINCIPLES ON ECUMENISM:…… the New Covenant, who are the Church, into a unity of faith, hope and charity, as the Apostle teaches us: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one Baptism”.……The Church, then, is God’s only flock; it is like a standard lifted high for the nations to see it:…3. Even in the beginnings of this one and only Church of God there arose certain rifts,(19) which the Apostle strongly condemned……. For men who believe in Christ and have been truly baptized are in communion with the Catholic Church even though this communion is imperfect. The differences that exist in varying degrees…… The ecumenical movement is striving to overcome these obstacles……….. ]P[…. our separated brethren, whether considered as individuals or as Communities and Churches, are not blessed with that unity which Jesus Christ wished to bestow on all those who through Him were born again into one body,…We believe that Our Lord entrusted all the blessings of the New Covenant to the apostolic college alone, of which Peter is the head, in order to establish the one Body of Christ on earth to which all should be fully incorporated who belong in any way to the people of God………..…. The Sacred Council exhorts all the Catholic faithful to recognize the signs of the times and to take an active and intelligent part in the work of ecumenism.

….All in the Church must preserve unity in essentials.

II THE PRACTICE OF ECUMENISM [Praxis ]- practice, as distinguished from theory; application or use, as of knowledge or skills.

5. The attainment of union is the concern of the whole Church, faithful and shepherds alike. 6. Every renewal of the Church(27) is essentially grounded in an increase of fidelity to her own calling. Undoubtedly, this is the basis of the movement toward unity. 7. There can be no ecumenism worthy of the name without a change of heart. For it is from renewal of the inner life of our minds, (28) from self-denial and an unstinted love that desires of unity take their rise and develop in a mature way.

The words of St. John hold good about sins against unity: “If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us”.(31) So we humbly beg pardon of God and of our separated brethren, just as we forgive them that trespass against us. Special circumstances in Prayers of Unity: In certain “special circumstances”, such as the prescribed prayers “for unity,” and during ecumenical gatherings, it is allowable, indeed desirable that Catholics should join in prayer with their separated brethren.

(communicatio in sacris):Yet worship in common

is not to be considered as a means to be used indiscriminately for the restoration of Christian unity. There are two main principles governing the practice of such common worship: first, the bearing witness to the unity of the Church, and second, the sharing in the means of grace. Witness to the unity of the Church very generally forbids common worship to Christians, but the grace to be had from it sometimes commends this practice.

CityofGod.blog commentary: This is the last excerpt statement, enclosed on the Vatican II Ecumenism document. Next is the “holy Office on Worship: that covers the Church period or the REFORMATION to 1939. These two documents must be understood in UNITY. They do not IMPLY- one overrides the other, such as an Amendment to the US Constitution, but instead are completely and congruently TRUE in your context of understanding where the Church Teaches its faithful. This is only the conclusion. Worship includes prayer. St Augustine defines ALMS in his Enchiridion on Faith Hope & Charity – both as prayer and works, in context of penance.

C.] The Holy Office on Worship with Non-Catholics from 1622 to 1939

Under the pontificate of Paul VI, the name of the congregation was changed to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.2 The essential function of this office from its inception was to address and authoritatively judge matters pertaining to faith and morals.

Conclusion #62 To summarize, we may recall that the Holy Office said that it is not so much a matter of whether schismatic worship contains anything objectionable to the Faith; rather, the problem is the very participation in worship with schismatics. By participating in schismatic and heretical worship, one is giving exterior signs of segregation and disapproval. Any participation in liturgical actions would constitute a sign of unity with those who are not in union with the Church. By coming together with them in unity of prayer, in unity of cult, in unity of veneration and worship, Catholics would offer worship with perverse schismatic and heretical ministers. In effect, the Holy Office said, that it is by the very coming together with them and joining one’s prayer and worship to theirs that one is participating in worship of those who reject the Catholic Church. To participate with those who reject the Faith was therefore forbidden, since there is a danger of perversion and loss of the Catholic faith. There is the very danger of participating in a heretical or schismatic rite, since the participation manifests a sign of disunity from the Church. Participation in heretical or schismatic worship is an occasion of scandal and by participating in their worship, one confirms schismatics and heretics in their errors. The Holy Office therefore observed that the Council of Carthage forbade praying and singing with heretics and that participation in schismatic and heretic worship is “universally prohibited by natural and divine law…[about which] no one has the power to dispense…[and with respect to this participation] nothing excuses.”(F4)

D.] Therefore reconciling the 2 documents have the following takeaways:

  1. Foremost, the DIVINE AUTHORITY was not granted to the Church to abolish what Christ handed down concerning Natural & Divine Law “activities of worship” with heretics, apostasy etc. It is Immovable!
  2. Prayer, worship or works, must be done as an expression of Catholic Unity. {Which I believe is my interpretation of Fr Steve’s admonition for our Justice Peace Respect -Life. } We can only pray with Non-catholics, (Apostates), “prescribed prayers of Unity” without committing a grave error (Sin against God’s Will). And even this, is risky for Laity given, #A, the population of Nevada..responses of religion issues. #B state of Catholic faith formation.
