Nothing Without Him
05/22/2019 John 15:1-8 Douay-Rheims Bible
I am the true vine; and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me, that bear not fruit, he will take away: and every one that bear fruit, he will purge it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now you are clean by reason of the word, which I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine: you the branches: he that abide in me, and I in him, the same bear much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up, and cast him into the fire, and he burn. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask whatever you will, and it shall be done unto you. In this is my Father glorified; that you bring forth very much fruit, and become my disciples.
MY FATHER IS THE HUSBANDMAN, by Ambrose
“I am the true vine; and my Father is the husbandman.” (Jn15:1)
Now if there is No doubt that the Son of God is called the vine in respect to His incarnation. You can see our Lord’s hidden truth in saying, “ The Father is greater than I,” For after establishing this premise, He immateriality continued, “ I am the True vine, and My Father is the husbandman. As a result you can know that the Father is greater because he prepares and cares for our Lord’s Flesh, as a farmer prepares and cares for their vines. Furthermore our Lord flesh was able to grow with age and be wounded thru suffering. Therefore the whole human race could rest under the shadow of the Cross’s outstretched limbs, guarded from the pestilent heat of the world’s pleasures. AMBROSE
NOTHING WITHOUT HIM by Augustine
“I am the vine: you the branches: he that abide in me, and I in him, the same bear much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.”(Jn15:5)
We are renewed day by day by making progress in our righteousness and true holiness through the knowledge of God. For those who do not transfer their love from temporal things to eternal things, from visible things to invisible things, from fleshy things to spiritual things….They do this in proportion to their help from God. For God said, “For without me ye can do nothing.” When the last day of life finds them holding on tightly to their faith in the Mediator through such progress and growth, they will be welcomed by the holy angels. They will be led to God, whom they have worshiped, and will be perfected by Him. As a result, they will receive an immortal body, at the end of the world. They won’t be led to punishment, but to glow. For our likeness of God will be perfected into His image when our sight of God is perfected. AUGUSTINE.
ABIDE IN THE VINE, By CityofGod.blog.
“Abide in me”, and I in You!” As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me. (Jn15:4)
What can this verse possibly mean to a broken branch? That the Father has pruned as the husbandman of “disobedient rubble”? Did National Orthodoxians, or Martin Luther and the countless minions, that have followed, take into sincere account this or any verse before they abandoned the Church Jesus Christ established? Or did one suppose, they could still abide in Him, yet remain outside the Body of Christ of His Church, His Bride? Do you, think, that upon breaking off from the “true vine on earth”, these could replant themselves as a fruitful garden with Division and Disobedient Solas?one thousand or fifteen hundred years later?, and still “abide in me and I in You”? Is this what Adam was thinking when he “ listened to the woman?”, as you listened to a heretic monk? Is Medjugorje Obedient or another Garden of SOLAS, of A woman and heretic monks?
Even if this passage was not clear, “ If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up, and cast him into the fire, and he burn.”
Did the bible readers also skip over this Psalm passage : (Psalm 127:1-2.) and others? Nisi Dominus. Nothing can be done without God’s grace and blessing. (*) (Psalm 126:1-2)
Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. Unless the Lord keep the CITY, he watch in vain that keep it. It is vain for you to rise before light, rise ye after you have sit, you that eat the bread of sorrow. “It is vain for you to rise before light”: That is, your early rising, your labor and worldly solicitude, will be vain, that is, will avail you nothing, without the light, grace, and blessing of God.
